When is Derrick Morgan coming back?

  • If you’ve been wondering when you’re going to finally see Titans first-round pick Derrick Morgan, the wait could be nearly over.
Morgan has been doing running on the practice field in recent days, and said he is getting close to returning from the nagging calf injury that he originally suffered in OTAs and re-injured the first day of training camp.
“I'm real close. I started doing some full speed get-offs and cutting. I'm hoping to get back sometime this week,” Morgan said. “To be rational, I don't know if they're gonna let me play in the Cardinals game [Monday night], but I hope to be back by the end of this week. That's my plan.”
If that is to happen, Morgan will have to practice on Saturday as the Titans have Sunday off – save for a closed stadium walk-through on Sunday – before they take on the Cardinals.
The smart money says Morgan should be well enough to play next week at Carolina.

TitanInsider: Any closer and you'd be in the huddle.

  • Morgan was very durable during his college career at Georgia Tech. In fact I can't remember him missing a practice or a game. You got a good one there.

  • Fisher said after practice that Morgan has a chance to play against the Cardinals on Monday night. I'm not buying that one at all, since he hasn't made it through one full practice in camp.

I know Jeff Fisher is smarter than that. If Morgan is not at an unquestionable 100%, Fisher isn't going to risk his 1st round draft pick to an reinjury for a preseason game. I expect to see Morgan on the field against Carolina, and depending on how next week goes we may not see him until the Saints.
