Which Palmer will we see as OC in Nashville?

  • The one that couldn't get it done with Carr in Houston or the one who made Eli a better QB in New York?

  • I really like the experience Palmer brings to the table, but I'm a little skeptical of the idea that he is a great developer of QBs. Drew Bledsoe, Mark Brunell, Tony Romo, and Eli Manning all showed significant improvement when Palmer was coaching them, but every one of them was already drafted and on the team for at least a year when Palmer arrived. The only two QBs that were drafted while Palmer was already part of the coaching staff were Tim Couch and David Carr. Palmer has definitely shown the ability to improve QBs, but the question now is can he make a QB from scratch? I think Locker is more NFL ready than most of the other QBs in this class, so that should help.

The break he gets with Carr and Couch is they were both with expansion teams that had expansion lines and receivers. I hope he will do well but I think the key may be the new QB coach who I think will help Locker a lot.

  • Likely the one that gives the ball to Chris Johnson 25 times a game.

  • A lot will depend on what he has to work with in Locker. As Buzz said, expansion teams building from the ground up. Locker appears to have the moxie and leadership it takes. I talked to Billy Volek when he was with the Titans and he had played with Carr at Fresno State. Carr apparently was a guy who held a grudge against Volek, who beat him out there, so that told me about his leadership qualities. Given a better supporting cast and take away his injuries, and I think Couch would have been a lot better QB than he turned out. He had a tryout with the Titans when he was trying to come back a few years ago and supposedly couldn't make any throws. His arm was spaghetti.

TitanInsider: Any closer and you'd be in the huddle.

  • The x factor is absolutely the 2nd year qb coach. In his first year as qb coach he improved vy dramatically compared to previous years and there is no way anyone can convince me that vy was some how more dedicated. As for palmer he absolutely has to receive a pardon for the development of carr and couch, those whole teams were abysmal and payton wouldn't have developed in those situations.
