Zach Brown

  • I know what Mayock said about him right after the pick. "Allergic to contact" I believe is what he said.

That got me thinking. He compares alot to Bulluck. He's big, fast, and has trouble getting off blocks. Bulluck was a sideline to sideline guy with great coverage and a sure tackler. If Brown comes close to being what Bulluck was in his prime I think we got a steal in round 2.

  • I think he's a steal. This guy can cover te's and rb's and allow Ayers to be aggressive.

I think most of the "talking heads" down graded the Brown pick because THEY didn't have him picked high. All the draft grades are about who picked whom and how high they were on someone's board.

  • Youtube his highlights from the Missouri game. I watched them after I posted this message, and am a little more concerned. That was horrible tackling. Didn't wrapup anyone. Even his big hit... He tries that in the NFL he'll wind up on his butt and a pro caliber RB is still on his feet. I'm sure the coaching staff feels confident they can help him improve in that facet of his game. Got to love the speed and coverage ability. Tackling is pretty important in terms of linebackers.

Watching his film he looks more like a big safety than a Lber.

  • Most of the analysts' comments didn't bother me, but Gruden's did. He mentioned that he is more of an athlete playing LB. He was concerned that he lines up wrong far too often, with weird stances, and seems to run around wherever he wants. Gruden wondered if it was a lack of coaching or a problem with Brown.

I don't think anyone knocks his athletic potential. He has the ability to cover very well. Which is a phenomenal trait considering that the NFL is going more, and more passing than running. What concerns me is that we were a borderline playoff team this past yr. Likely going to be one this yr. Brown seems more like a 2 yr away project at WLB. Very raw, athletic as hell, but needs to learn the position. At our #2 pick we could've gotten someone that could help us win right now.

    Great take, BlueRaider22.

  • Another thing about Gruden's take is that for virtually every player taken in the draft Gruden went on and on about how he loved them. Of course, he was usually followed up by Kuyper who disagreed with him. Gruden was very critical and didn't seem to high on the Brown pick-up......and Kuyper actually defended his ability in coverage.

One more thing. The Titans need a WLB to replace Witherspoon. Brown was the first 4-3 WLB taken in the draft.....leaving out Kuechly and Kendricks who are athletic enough to play WLB. This means that they had their pick out of any WLB in the draft......I hope it works.
