Titans pursuing center Koppen

The Tennessee Titans hosted Dan Koppen on Wednesday and, according to multiple sources, are serious about trying to land the veteran center.

According to a source, Koppen will be staying overnight in Nashville after visiting with the Titans on Wednesday. Late last month, Kamerion Wimbley stayed overnight while negotiations continued and a deal was brokered the next day.

Koppen, 32, missed all but one game of the 2011 season with a broken ankle. But prior to that, he missed only one game in a five-year stretch for the Patriots.

The Titans have made adding veteran leadership on the offensive line a priority this season. Tennessee added Steve Hutchinson early in free agency to play left guard, and have paraded in centers Scott Wells, Jeff Saturday and Chris Myers in for free agent visits, though they were unable to sign any of them. The Titans had also had some early contact regarding former Philadelphia Eagles center Jamaal Jackson, but no visit materialized in that regard.

Eugene Amano started at center the past two seasons, but if the Titans are to land Koppen, he would probably be thrown into a competition with Leroy Harris and Fernando Velasco for the right guard spot.
